At the same time, in the province of Mahismati, King Bhallaladeva (Rana), a ruthless king who treated his citizens as slaves, kept Queen Devasena (Anushka) as a prisoner. Kattappa, who supervises the slaves, is faithful to Devasena but is helpless. Hiding secretly outside the kingdom, a band of warriors awaits to release Devasena. One of the gang members is Avanthika (Tamannah). Sivudu, bewitched by the beauty of Avanthika, wins his love with heroic exploits and promises to release Devasena.

It can be clearly seen that Prabhas put his heart and blood in the film and the two characters he represented. He worked hard for the film for three years and turned his body to be the burning royal king Baahubali and the burning Sivudu. It is a scene to be seen when he raises the enormous Sivalingam on his broad shoulders. In combat sequences too, it is perfect. Although there is consistency in its performances, beauty lies in its strong presence in the screen.

Surprisingly, Rana as Bhallaladev, the antagonist is also perfect and gets an equal prominence to Prabhas. Rana is seen as a unique role but with two nuances. In a role supported by the author of Sivagami, Mahishati's rajamata, Ramya Krishna offers a stellar performance. It is exceptional. Anushka has very little role, makes little impression. Tamannah, like Avanthika, fell dead in songs but pale in performance as the warrior princess.

Nasser as bad Bijjala Deva, Sathya Raj in the role of slave warrior Kattappa, Prabhakar as Kalakeya, the warlord makes strong impressions and these are pillars of history too. Kannada superstar Sudeep and director Rajamouli make appearances.
