Chennai Cyclone Status / Chennai Cyclone Live Updates / Chennai Cyclone Varadha Report : Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are in a state of alert while the strong cyclonic storm Vardah on the west-central and south-western bays of Bengal was heading west to south- Extending about 180 km east-northeast of Chennai and 250 km east-southeast of Nellore according to the cyclone warning center in Visakhapatnam. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Vardah will traverse northern Tamil Nadu and the southern coast of Andhra Pradesh, causing heavy rainfall and grounding in the afternoon. "The severe cyclone storm Vardah is now located about 180 km east of Chennai and is heading west towards Chennai and will likely cross near Chennai this afternoon," said S Balachandran "Over the next 36 hours, precipitation will occur in many areas north of the Tamil Nadu coastline in Pondicherry, Chennai and Tiruvallur," the IMD official said. Outside the NDRF and the Indian Navy, the Army, the Air Force and Coast Guard personnel are also awaiting rescue and rescue operations.

The NDRF is monitoring the situation. Few teams have already pre-positioned in Andhra Pradesh.
